Also, consider dog breeding takes more effort than you think. It took the bandit war two weeks. In a quickly instigated war, dogs would take a while and might not be effective. And they are hard to move. Carrying them through the nether for instance kills a giant percentage of them.

That was something I was curious about, was moving them. However, just getting 2 somewhere, you can breed them quite rapidly. Since you can feed them with rotten meat, it is trivial to have the food ready to do so.

A war with only one day in advance? Good point. Weeks? The Siege of Ikwe? Count on thousands if they are legal.

There is a cooldown in the breeding. So breeding in large numbers take patience. And, in the bandit wars, the Marines were aided by other nations by helping prepare their transport and shipping in a constant source of food. That is, teamwork. It was pretty cool. Replicating thos numbers isn't easy as the conditions were just right last time.

Right, but anyone with time can breed tons of them.

We just tested it - with diamond prot IV armor, potions, golden apples, etc, I was able to kill 200+ invisible wolves without swinging a sword. I used poison splash, regen potion, 2-3 harming potions, and lava.

However, that goes back to the original discussion about combat. It's impossible to kill people with prot IV armor. Mojang really goofed with that update.

I completely agree. While discussions about alternative combat diversity is important and am glad folks are reflecting, the current armor situation is severe a warrants close attention.

Part of the discussion we are having on Mumble is changes in rules between battles.

Lore battles would have rules established by the person hosting/organizing the battle.

Real battles, ones that haven't happened in hundred of years lore wise, might not have those rules, yet aren't "total wars." '

Lots of fun discussion will happen I'm sure! I still can't believe I tanked that many wolves.

I am opposed to either version of this law. Splash potions, lava, sweep attacks, and ender pearls all provide reliable checks/counters to wolf spam. Yes, wolves are annoying, but they are far from impossible to deal with. The salt from previous wolf usage is more the result of the unpreparedness of the bandits than anything else. Also, the wolves were only responsible for one player death out of four. Wolves are also vulnerable to a number of environmental hazards (falling, cactus, etc.) that further hamper their effectiveness. Given the presence of counters and their own unwieldiness at times, I see no reason to ban wolves from warfare.

I see no reason to ban the use of wolves because the were utilized brilliantly and surprisingly to route a force that lacked the foresight, awareness, and capacity to counter them. As Haedren has said, wolves can be countered effectively with a variety of tactics. If one does not wish to be defeated because of wolves, then they should utilize these tactics as opposed to banning canines from the field.

I'm also against these proposals. If I had more time I would say more.

After Mark and I tested the wolves I think it's safe to say I agree with the more recent opinion that either version of the bill shouldn't be set into law.
