Skyfire Guild of HermertiaFounded: Year of the Emperor 497.Founders: Samyrrah of House Almandine & Talvilainen Haukks.============================================
Welcome, Allies, Noblemen and Noblewomen of the Empire. This is a grand day for Hermertia. Today marks the opening of a new chapter in the ever increasing ingenuity of the people of Hermertia.
The grand unveiling of the Skyfire Guild!
Purpose -
Fly!: Of course, this guild is built around the use of Haukk wings, crafted from a large predatory avian species found across the Empire, and now, more recently, the use of the Elytra, a superior device crafted from Dragon's wings and leather.
-
Community: Providing a place for like minded individuals from across the Empire to come together and experience the joy of flight and gliding.
-
Instruct: A means to spread the techniques learned in the wild heartlands of the Dawnstar mountains by generations of Haukk fliers, and integrate lessons from other such enthusiasts from across the breadth of Hermertia.
BackgroundFollowing the climactic battle in the End, the acquisition of Dragon leather and scales has increased the effectiveness of the rugged, traditionally designed harness found worn by Aethen 'Haukk" fliers. This harness design utilises the wings of enormous birds of prey found commonly in the deep wilderness and mountains. This design, while functional and effective in it's own right, has limits based upon the materials used in it's construction. Dragon's leather harnesses have a higher stress tolerance for banking and slowing, but have the tradeoff of being slightly heavier and less flexible.
Upon seeing the Duchess's personal pair of Elytra, some of the more naturally curious and more adventurous adrenaline seekers were impressed beyond words and word began to spread. Disregarding their Elder's cautionary tones about becoming "Too Mercurianised" by spending too much time with foreign influences, small bands of Haukk fliers travelled south to Frostfall to witness again the Elytra harness crafted in part from dragon's wings, The Dragon, or a small piece of it at least, was real; thought to be only a myth from ancient Aethen legends. Aethen hands were feeling the texture of the harness, suit, and in-built wings under the gaze of Samyrrah of House Almandine.
Sensing a chance to continue to improve relations with the current generation of natives, Samyrrah proposed thusly: that anyone wishing to experience the untold joy of an improved flight-harness could, providing that the Art of the Haukk would be taught to House Almandine, and by extension, Valyrian enthusiasts.
The deal struck, a new era of flight was upon Dawnstar. The whole Empire was before the Haukks, with new lands to explore through the opportunities (and ships) provided by Samyrrah. This is the age of the Elytra and the Haukk. The age of Skyfire!
Activities -
Doing insane cliff jumps: The natives waste no time in enjoying their mountainous home and the more adventurous, younger Aethen have been experiencing limited at first, but growing in number, trips abroad to foreign jump sites.
-
Leaping from the tops of buildings: How better to explore the reaches of a vast new land with your Haukk brethren than finding the tallest building in the town or city and leaping from it.
Constructing purpose-build towers for long range Haukk/Elytra travel within a realm. No hills to jump from? No problem with the Skyfire Guild.-
Competitions: Having the necessary skills to glide like a Haukk is one thing, putting them to test against your fellow Guild members and enthusiasts from another Realm is another thing entirely. Regular flight competitions, Timed, Race, and Skill flying.
Guild Hall LocationsA Guildhall is not necessarily a large building, and will often incorporate a Haukk/Elytra tower as part of the construction.
- Dawnstar: Port of Valtamerri.
- Wychwood: City of Isenwych
- Perth: Town of Jordbrukk.
- Valtoros: Town of Galios.
- Isilioth: City of Oakland
- Ostlond: City of Acholm
